Audacity - Recording your voice (Toolkit Activity)

IT Learning Centre Skills toolkit penknife icon

You can use Audacity to record live audio or to edit existing recordings. It is easy to use yet powerful enough to edit and produce good quality results. The website has a comprehensive help guide.

You can apply various effects to improve the audio quality – fade ins, equalization, compression and normalization. Comprehensive edit tools will enable you to cut, copy, paste, move, and insert audio across several tracks if needed. There are other tools to improve other media types – vinyl and tape etc. There are also some music creation effects.

This task will show you how easy it is to record your own voice using simple and inexpensive equipment.

You can try this task on your own, although it was designed to be done in a classroom with a teacher to support you.

For this task, you will need the Audacity software installed on your computer (talk to your IT support person about this).
